Govt impound buses not COVID-19 compliant

Government has tasked the Zambia Police to start impounding Public Service Vehicles that are not COVID-19 compliant.

Home Affairs Permanent Secretary MASIYE BANDA says all Public Service Vehicles found abrogating the statutory instruments set to curb the spread of the Pandemic must be stopped from operating as they pose a Danger to society.

Mr. BANDA said this today after conducting a joint inspection with the Road Transport and Safety Agency under the Operation COVID-19 compliance in Lusaka’s Kabangwe area.

He said there is need for the Covid-19 taskforce to carry out intensified patrols aimed at checking compliance levels to ensure both the commuters and bus drivers strictly adhere to the rules.

The Home Affairs Permanent Secretary has also expressed concern with the lack of adherence to the COVID-19 prevention guidelines on public transportation.

He said Public Transportation is also a Super Spreader because passengers are at risk of contracting and spreading the pandemic as they commute.

Mr. BANDA has further called for a multi-sectoral approach in the response and prevention of the Pandemic in a bid to save more lives.
