*TAKE THE VACCINES WHERE THE PEOPLE ARE- DR. CHANDA TELLS HEALTH WORKERS *

… As he dispels myths that after vaccination, individuals cannot consume alcohol until after 45 days…

Kitwe, Thursday, 22 April, 2021 (Smart Eagles)

Health Minister Dr. Jonas Chanda has directed health workers tasked with administering the Covid-19 vaccine to take vaccinations where the people are.

Speaking during the routine Covid-19 update in Kitwe today, Dr. Chanda said the vaccination teams should work with leaders in the priority groups in order for those that want to be vaccinated to have easier access to the vaccine.

“We don’t expect all the military camps, the schools to march to a centralised place like the University Teaching Hospital, Ndola Teaching Hospital or any other hospital.” He said.

“We have told our health workers, the vaccination team to liaise with the leaders in these priority groups whether they are men and women in uniform, the teachers, the clergy and traditional leaders so that vaccines are given where people are, be it at the palaces in the barracks, police camps, schools and other places. Dr. Chanda added.

And Dr. Chanda has dispelled as a myth some information being shared on social media suggesting that people that receive the Covid-19 vaccine should not consume alcohol until 45 days after the vaccination.

He said this is being perpetrated to discourage people who take alcohol from getting vaccinated adding that this is a lie and people must listen to what health workers are saying and not what is being posted and shared on social media.

“I urge members of the public to ignore all such propaganda, all such myths, conspiracy theories and only listen to the health experts who have your best interests at heart.” He said.

Meanwhile in the last 24 hours 1884 individuals were vaccinated yesterday, bringing the cumulative number of those vaccinated to 6495.

70 new cases have been recorded out of 4,800, while 161 recoveries were recorded while 2 Covid-19 deaths were recorded.

The Health Minister reiterated that the third wave is not a myth but eminent if measures to prevent it are not taken by the public.

“The third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic is not a myth, it is actually probable especially in the coming cold season, and our only hope lies in a holistic approach to adhering to the prescribed interventions as well as getting Covid-19 vaccines at the earliest opportunity.” The Health Minister said.
