Patrons who were found having a nice time in small numbers at Magodi Lodge in Lusaka welcomed Lusaka’ mayor Miles Sampa to a thunderous welcome as he attempted to close the lodge for allegedly operating as a bar.

The mayor who stormed the lodge on Saturday night around 22:30hrs  was showered with praise by those who were found having a light moment playing pool and just chatting.  The lodge located in Matero North on Great North Road is usually accused by many competitors that it doesn’t follow health guidelines which prompted the mayor to visit it.

While at the lodge the mayor was shocked to note that people found at the lodge cheered at him and asked him to join for shisha and pool.

It was at that moment that the mayor went to the lodge reception accompanied by council officials to ask for the manager who was reportedly out of office and unwell. The mayor instructed council officials to notify staff at the lodge that the liquor license had been suspended until further notice.

The mayor took it to social media to post a video about the raid at Magodi Lodge through Boba TV monitored by ZED GOSSIP, that the facility has been shut, license suspended and management summoned to the council.

Despite being cheered, the vibrant and youthful mayor has received criticism for visiting Magodi Lodge without putting on a face mask which many said he was risking being in contact with someone who might have Covid-19.

The mayor has been on the ground recently spending sleepless nights to check if people in the country are adhering to Covid-19 health guidelines.

In his usual style the mayor continues to advise people to stay safe and follow all health guidelines at home or elsewhere.
